 The Role: S&P Dow Jones Indices 2018 Index Investment Strategy Summer Internship Programme is a 10 week summer training program commencing in June/July 2018.

The Team/The Business:  You will be part of a global team of investment managers who are a substantial part of our S&P Dow Jones Indices business line. We are looking for penultimate year students and high achievers from a diverse pool of undergraduate & postgraduate institutions that are passionate about analysis and want to develop their career in a dynamic, high performing and multicultural team. We are looking for students who are able to work well within a team and can demonstrate exceptional learning agility, creativity and problem solving ability.

The Impact:  

You will be part of a team that is responsible for producing market-leading commentary and thought leadership on the full suite of S&P Dow Jones Indices products and reports regularly on topics driving market dynamics across the globe. You will support a team that is responsible for distributing the research and findings of our Dow Jones business areas across to our clients the globe.

You will be offered the opportunity to assist S&P Global in achieving its mission of being one of the leading providers of the highest quality risk evaluations and analytical information to the world’s financial markets.

You will work directly for the Index Investment Strategy team and will be required to engage with multiple aspects of the business in order to research and report the results of their investigations into various aspects of indexed investments; including quantitative investment strategies and derived, non-investible indices such as volatility.  The projects offered include an investigation into risk premia under long-term investment horizons and the long-term opportunity set for active managers to outperform market benchmarks.  Interns will also have the chance to present their work to senior management at the completion of the program, with the potential opportunity to publish their work on our website and discuss the results with major financial institutions.

Interns will also be provided with the chance to meet with and network with other students participating in other programs in the wider S&P Global group, as well as gaining regular exposure to senior business leaders within the Indices unit.

What we’re looking for:

  • Would ideally suit students who have completed their third or fourth year of university studies in a numerate discipline, although exceptional second year students may be considered
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills, with a fluent command of English
  • Creative and entrepreneurial mindset with strong problem solving skills
  • The ability and the desire to learn to conduct your own analysis and research
  • A passing familiarity with indices, ETFs and the options market would be an advantage
